Getting to Know Pumpkin
Meet Pumpkin, a beautiful cream English Golden Retriever puppy born to Hazel and Diamond on August 12, 2026. Pumpkin is being raised with us at Bluebird Meadow Puppies in Middlebury, Indiana, where she's spending these early weeks tucked in with her littermates and surrounded by the people who care for her every day.
There is a lot of growing packed into these first few weeks. Pumpkin's days may still include plenty of naps and cozy time with her brothers and sisters, but little by little, she's beginning to discover that there's a much bigger world around her.
As she grows, we'll get to see more of Pumpkin's individual personality come through. We never like to make assumptions about a puppy's temperament too early. Instead, we enjoy watching those little traits reveal themselves naturally as each puppy becomes more confident, curious, and interactive.
What Makes an English Golden Retriever Special?
Pumpkin's soft cream-colored coat may be the first thing you notice about her, but the history behind the Golden Retriever is just as interesting as the breed's beautiful appearance.
Golden Retrievers were developed as sporting dogs and retrievers, working closely with people both on land and around water. That working background helped shape a breed known for being intelligent, trainable, and highly people-oriented.
Today, Golden Retrievers are found in many different roles, from beloved family companions to therapy, service, sporting, and working dogs. While breed characteristics can give families an idea of what to expect, every Golden is still an individual with her own personality.
Pumpkin is only beginning that journey, and we can't wait to see the kind of little girl she becomes.
Growing, Learning & Discovering at Bluebird Meadow
Puppyhood isn't something we want to rush. Pumpkin has plenty of time ahead of her for training, adventures, and all the experiences that come with being someone's companion. Right now, we're focused on giving her positive, age-appropriate experiences as she grows.
Being raised around our family helps Pumpkin become familiar with everyday sights, sounds, handling, and household activity. As she reaches the appropriate developmental stages, we gradually introduce early socialization and new experiences to help broaden her little world.
And, of course, Pumpkin has a whole group of littermates sharing the experience with her. They're her first playmates, cuddle buddies, and partners in puppy mischief. As they become more active, there will be plenty of exploring, wrestling, playing, and learning together.
Pumpkin's Parents, Hazel & Diamond
Pumpkin is part of Hazel and Diamond's English Golden Retriever litter, and we're proud to share information about the parents behind our puppies.
Both Hazel and Diamond are AKC registered and have been genetically tested clear on the Golden Retriever panel. Health testing in Pumpkin's parentage also includes OFA heart and patella evaluations.
Pumpkin also comes from accomplished lines that include Junior Champion recognition through UKU.
At Bluebird Meadow Puppies, thoughtful parent selection, health information, and genetic testing are important pieces of our breeding program. We want families to be able to learn more about the dogs behind their puppy and the care that goes into planning each litter.
Making Pumpkin's Transition a Little Easier
When October 7 arrives, Pumpkin will trade the familiar surroundings of Bluebird Meadow for a whole new world with her family. New people, new smells, a new routine, and a new place to call home make those first few days an exciting transition.
To help her family get started, Pumpkin will head home with:
A starter bag of Royal Canin puppy food
A collar and leash
A toy
Her goodie bag
Pumpkin will also be microchipped through Global Pet Security with lifetime microchip registration, providing permanent identification that can remain with her throughout her life.
Pumpkin's Next Chapter Starts October 7
Pumpkin will be ready to leave Bluebird Meadow Puppies on October 7, 2026, but there is still plenty to look forward to before that day arrives.
The tiny puppy we're watching today will change so much over the coming weeks. She'll become steadier on her feet, more interested in playing and exploring, and increasingly engaged with the people and activity around her.
We're looking forward to watching it all unfold and getting to know Pumpkin a little better each day. For now, this beautiful cream English Golden Retriever girl has just one important job: enjoy being a puppy. 🤍🐾
