Getting to Know Ike
Meet Ike, a handsome cream English Golden Retriever puppy born to Hazel and Diamond on August 12, 2026. Ike is growing up here at Bluebird Meadow Puppies in Middlebury, Indiana, where his days are currently filled with all the important business of being a young puppy.
At this stage, the smallest things are brand-new experiences. As Ike grows, he is becoming more aware of the people around him, the sounds of everyday life, and everything happening beyond the cozy space he shares with his littermates.
Over the next several weeks, we'll begin seeing more of the individual personality hidden inside this little cream-colored bundle. Rather than labeling his temperament too soon, we enjoy letting our puppies grow and show us who they are naturally. That's half the fun of watching them develop!
There's a Lot to Love About a Golden
The English Golden Retriever is certainly known for its beautiful appearance, and Ike's soft cream coloring gives him that classic look so many people recognize. Underneath that fluffy puppy coat, however, is a breed with generations of interesting history.
Golden Retrievers were originally developed as sporting companions capable of retrieving game while working closely alongside people. Intelligence, trainability, and cooperation were important characteristics in their development, and those qualities continue to be associated with Golden Retrievers today.
That versatility is one reason you'll find Goldens doing everything from enjoying everyday family life to participating in sporting activities and working as service and therapy dogs.
Of course, Ike is a long way from worrying about any of that. His current occupation is simply being a puppy, and we'd say he's got a pretty good job!
Ike's Puppy Days at Bluebird Meadow
These first weeks may look like a lot of sleeping, eating, cuddling, and playing, but they are an important period in Ike's development.
Growing up around our family gives him the opportunity to gradually experience the normal sights, sounds, handling, and activity of everyday life. As Ike reaches the appropriate developmental stages, we introduce early socialization and age-appropriate experiences that allow him to safely explore more of the world around him.
His brothers and sisters make pretty good companions along the way. As the litter becomes increasingly active, those quiet puppy piles turn into play sessions, wrestling matches, exploration, and plenty of entertaining puppy antics.
Each experience is another small part of Ike's journey toward eventually leaving Bluebird Meadow and joining a family of his own.
The Dogs Behind Ike: Hazel & Diamond
Ike is one of Hazel and Diamond's English Golden Retriever puppies, and his parents are an important part of his story.
Both Hazel and Diamond are AKC registered and have been genetically tested clear on the Golden Retriever panel. Health testing in Ike's parentage also includes OFA heart and patella evaluations.
Ike's background also includes Junior Champion recognition through UKU.
At Bluebird Meadow Puppies, we believe families should have the opportunity to learn about the dogs behind their puppy. Parent health information and genetic testing are important considerations in our breeding program, and we are happy to share the testing information available for Hazel and Diamond.
A Few Familiar Things for the Journey Home
Going from a litter full of brothers and sisters to an entirely new home is a pretty big change for a little puppy. When Ike's go-home day arrives, we'll send a few things along to help his family get started and make that transition a little easier.
Ike will head home with:
A starter bag of Royal Canin puppy food
A collar and leash
A toy
His goodie bag
Ike will also be microchipped through Global Pet Security with lifetime microchip registration, giving him permanent identification that can stay with him throughout his life.
Ike's Big Day Is October 7
On October 7, 2026, Ike will be ready to say goodbye to Bluebird Meadow and begin a completely new adventure.
Until then, there's no need to rush. He still has several weeks to spend growing alongside his littermates, experiencing new things, and showing us more of the little personality that will eventually make Ike unmistakably Ike.
We're looking forward to enjoying those weeks with him and watching this handsome cream English Golden Retriever boy grow! 🤍🐾
